a bit disheartened

Post by boosmummy »

Well as you know from my previous posts i'm going to make our chicken house out of my daughters old wendy house.

I originally gave it away to a neighbour as my daughter got too big for it and they dont use it anymore so, i went to pick it up this morning and it has a great big crack in the top of it and the door has been ripped off :( i cant complain - im not complaining, it wasnt a 'here loan the wendy house scenerio' but now im wondering if its going to be viable to use?

On one hand the coop its self (8x12') is going to have corregated plastic on the top and chicken wire as well as taurpaulin around the sides so to protect from the elements, so no water would get in anyway, in which case maybe i could get a piece of perspex and attach the to the underneath of the roof to stop drafts getting in. The door i was going to board up anyway, i knew it was going to be a tatty wendy house but, its just saddens me that it went to them in such good condition and its just been trashed :(

Is there any way the crack could be glued or somehow sealed to make it waterproof.

A bit of a disappointment but as you say it wasn't loaned , I suppose some children just aren't taught to be careful with things - try to think , well at least it was played with . Why not look on Gummytree and see if someone is trying to part with one that is in a bit better condition than your old one ? Don't lose heart , its just a set back , you will have some feather bums soon {hug}
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .

no, its cracked and there's a a little hole in it too, i could like i said put the perspex under the crack and then attach that on then go around the piece with some bathroom sealant that would probably do the trick, the more i think about it, the more i can see that working xx

I know, at least it was played with and thats the good thing.

Ive looked on gum tree and 2nd hand its about £100, i'll sort it, i just need it to be a nicer day so i can look at the damage properly, its chucking it down at the moment and i dont fancy standing out in the rain looking at a broken wendy house hahaha xx

I'm not sure I understand what you are doing. Are you using it as a coop or a run or what?

I agree though about kids and things lent to poeple who aren't careful. But we've all done it, let kids have something and then regretted the damage from misuse because they were too young to use it properly.
May have been storm damage or something, or visiting kids or pets.
I have got a load of old toys out of the loft for grandson and found that the plastic is brittle and easily cracked (and it was only 25 years since my daughter finished playing with them and they were only 10 years old when we were given them - they don't make things to last these days)
