I think Vera isn't too far from Rainbow Bridge.

Post by RuthieG »

I've been on nights this week, but have checked on them all when I'm not sleeping or working. Went to the vet on Tuesday who said wait and see what happens, hopefully Vera's immune system would kick in and take over (after 12 days of max dose baytrill). I let them into the the run this morning, they all seemed fine, let them out of their run this afternoon, Vera had blood all over her back end, with some clots at her vent. I bathed her and her vent is all bruised, I don't know if one of the other girls has got to her or not. On top of that, she's had another cracked egg - egg white has been coming away all afternoon. Came back from visiting my mother in law in hospital this evening to find Vera standing in the corner of the coop with egg yolk underneath her. I've brought her in and had a cuddle with her, she looks tired and poorly. I'm keeping her in tonight and hoping that if this is her time, that she passes away swiftly and painlessly as possible.

The other girls are going to miss her so much, she's such a good top hen, firm but fair.

This hurts so much. {cry}

If I whisper quietly, she might not hear me and try and prove me wrong. Vera is still with us and is much better today. She slept in the spare bedroom with me last night, although she didn't really settle. She started pecking at corn at 3am and i got her some water, which she drank loads of. She woke me up pecking on the bedroom floor at 7am. I took her downstairs and put her out with the others. She's been happy all day, eating, drinking and scratching around like normal. Her vent is bruised and sore looking. We'll just take each day as it comes, I still don't think she will recover fully, but so pleased she is still with us and happy for the time being.

They don't..... but I've decided that's their loss as the joys these little girls bring us is missed by them too....

Hope she continues to improve >fi< Come on Vera...
