Feather Loss

Post by splitpin »

Hi All

i have just got back from a weekend away and have noticed that 1 of my girlls has lost a lot of feathers

she still has her main wing and tail feather but not much else

all of my girls have been treated for worms and mites recently so I am happy that they are as protected as I can make them

do you have any suggestions as to what may have caused it

my other 9 girls are all OK

if it helps I have had her for 2 years and she is an ex bat

thanks

Graham

Probably going through a moult!, two of my girls are currently looking scruffy >shrug<
You can assist by upping her protein intake, maggots, mealworms etc! )t'

..and if she is losing them that quickly then it's a sign she is one of the more prolific layers out of your hens )t'

Hi Bob, welcome to the lane )t' , as in the post above, chooks do go through a moult, some lose only a few feathers, and some end up looking oven ready! >dowhat< .
If they are eating and drinking, and doing all the normal stuff they do, then don't worry, as mentioned, you can up their protein intake with some maggots (undyed!) and or mealworms/earthworms )t' )t'
