So I suppose it depends when you ask!

Started with four three years ago - a rooster and three hens. Of those, just one now survives, a Light Sussex hen. Now have nine hens (one of which we proudly hatched!), four pullets almost at point of lay and our most recent arrivals, a trio of Pekin bantams, one male and two female. So that's 16 in total.

Started with 5 ex batt Warrens - the fabulous Pearl (pic on right), Titch, Iris, Flora and Olga. Later they were joined by 6 ex colony cage Goldlines - Arabella, Coral, Jenny Jones, Torah, Nemo and Portia. So I was up to 11. Sad, sad, sadly the older ladies all left us one by one, as did Arabella and Coral. All individual characters with their own special little ways. All missed. So down to 4. Now have added 2 amber stars - Image and Tessa and 2 black rocks - Esmeralda and Florence. So back up to 8.
I like 8, there's plenty of space for everyone without the run looking empty. But no doubt the number will go up again when the next rescue girls come home.
Hi I started with 2 in January this year, when I adopted my Mums girls, lost one and then got another 2, so I'm just at 3. I'm so tempted to add another 2 but I don't think there's enough space in my run and I'd worry they'd feel over crowded. Wish now when I picked up my 2 new girls I'd gone for 3 instead! It's addictive Emma
I initially went to pick up 3 ex batts and had them in my dog cage from the rescue centre, then whilst I was talking to the guy , a hen jumped up and started to cluck right next to me , and allowed me to stroke her , the guy said "you've got a friend there" and I didn't have the heart to leave her ...so ended up with 4. She turned out to be the bravest , first out exploring her new world when I got them home , 1st to feed , 1st into the coop, basically 1st to do every think. we named her Erin after my niece who has the same temperament.
Hi Davefeeney wellcome to the lane Thats a lovely story about your hen, she definately knew where she wanted to go Linda
