Couldn't sleep I hate it when that happens Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012Congrats on the mushrooms Perchy. Are they a kit? Reason for asking is that a friend had a kit given for his birthday, and when I asked him a couple of weeks since how the mushrooms were doing, he said he thought it was cheaper to buy them, as keeping them warm, was eating away at his heating bills.
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012Hi
Yes it was a kit 3.99 from al and di, half the fun is watching them grow, I don't keep them warm, they are in the cool kitchen, I don't think they are that good value but it means we have a few mushrooms every few days which means no trips to town etc, so swings and roundabouts, I had three harvests last year, as in harvest for a couple of weeks, it rests and then again and then again
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012I think I have said before , if we added up all the costs of our veggie growing exploits, including paying ourselves basic wage, we would be severely out of pocket compared to buying it from the supermarket , but what price the pleasure of watching seedlings appear and growing, picking and eating your own produce ?
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .
Quote from the proprietor of the The best exotic Marigold Hotel for the elderly and beautiful Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012Have had a couple of hours in the greenhouse, things are certainly going mad now, and despite the frost we have had, everything seems fine.
I didn't get chance to put the onions out, and I desperately need the room, will try to do it one evening. I have a couple of flowers on tumbling toms, these are the ones I started in the house with some Russian black, seeds from last years crop am very pleased with them, I have put two tumblers in with a couple of strawberries, and a pansy to look pretty. The chillis have been repotted today, and the second lot of tomatoes and chilli's have started growing would like a big batch this year as loved making the chutneys and chilli jams Round yellow courgettes are up and also the cucumbers am going to try and devise something better for holding the cue's up this year. A few flowers on the strawberries, seems early but am not complaining Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012My word the weather has worried me a little, thankfully everything in the greenhouse is ok, had a couple of hard frosts the last couple of days, I did put fleece over the tomatoes and peppers, was worried about them.
The row of carrots I started off have come up, no sign of the potatoes, hoping I just buried them nice and deep Still have to put the onions in, it has been so cold and just couldn't face it. Am off for a couple of days so hope the weather will warm up a bit Herbs are doing well, am pleased with them, I love fresh herbs, the ones you buy in supermarkets just don't last very long. Flowers on the blueberry bush not many but hopefully will increase with time. I would like to pot up some hanging baskets and keep them in the greenhouse until they are a decent size, and then they will be ready for dotting round the garden
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012I nearly fainted when I saw your tomato plants with flowers on ..
...then I saw the date you posted
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012I can't believe noone else saw it !! .. I was away as you know
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012
I even asked Helen if she had seen them, and she said yes
Re: Perchy's Pottager Patch 2012When will we ever learn that Perchy sometimes bends the truth a little when talking about tomatoes ?She just cant help herself
It will be alright in the end , if its not alright, it isn't the end .
